Nordic Chain strike-surcharge for Norway

In Norway the negotiations with the Transport workers union (NTF) has come to a stalemate and since 15.05.2010 there has been a transport strike in Norway. In addition the situation has escalated and as of 25.05.2010 most distribution systems in Norway are paralyzed by the strike.

Norsk Trailer Express AS – Nortrail our Nordic Chain partner is luckily not on strike and  Nordic Chain will try to offer an undisrupted service to our best ability.

In order to distribute the shipments they are forced to use a lot of alternative subcontractors during the period of strike, and the cost level with these are not at all on the same level as our regular distribution system. They can unfortunately not absorb these big extra costs, and we therefore see us forced to ask for a surcharge of 10% for all groupage shipments to and from Norway during the period of strike in order to keep the shipments moving. The surcharge will be implemented as of today the 27/05/2010, but will of course be stopped immediately when the strike is over.

We would like to point out that the surcharge does not give a 100% guarantee that shipments are indeed delivered according to schedule as Nortrail might risk facing outside comming disturbances affected by the strike.

We apologize for any inconveniences this might give you and your clients, but we hope for your understanding in a difficult situation. We will revert as soon as we receive any updates. You can also follow the development of the strike situation on www.ltl.no
